Is There a Dichotomy in Education?

Sally Kohn: We need to teach kids loads of knowledge so that they can have really richly full long-term memories to draw on. But at the same time, we do have to ask ourselves as educators, what are things that maybe we might want to let go with automaticity and with memorization? She says it's easy to reach for cognitive science research that shows x plus y equals z in disciplines where things don't change very much. "Things get very fuzzy very quickly when you start talking about industries that change rapidly," she says.
