Geocultural Power: China's Revive of the Silk Roads for the 21st Century
China's idea is of framing this Belt and Road initiative as the revival of the Silk Roads for the 21st century. I think what we're seeing today is a new era of geocultural politics. We've seen a dears of neo-automism play out in Turkey under Erdogan. We've got the Hindutva movement under Modi in India which is an Indian Hindu civilizational narratives that stretches beyond the current borders of the nation state. And so to consolidate that around just ideas of soft power I think is misunderstands really what's going on here.
