What Professor Foner Says About the Immigration Act of 1924
I think it's singular insofar as we're experiencing it, that is to say, philosophically, we weren't present in the previous historical moment. For the first time in American history, we have a significant body of a major political party that does not believe in the democratic project. And I don't think we know how something like that's going to play out. So while there are themes that go along throughout our history that we are reliving now, what seems to me to make this moment unique is that they're about to ascend to important positions again.
