How Do You Make Carbon?

In the interstellar medium we think they're vast clouds of oxygen. Sometimes a proton hits one and makes beryllium. Carbon was not made in the very early universe because it's kind of tricky to make. It requires six protons two from each of three different helium atoms. Most of the carbon that we have here on earth came from other suns.
