What Is the Meaning of Symbolic Warfare?

The premise of the film is that you've got these super powers. They are in violent conflict with one another, but they can't go to war on the whole. Instead, t they pick one person from each side to get in a robot fight it out and then the winner gets whatever it is they wanted. And so now we see like, the end results of that, where the combatants are absolutely as large as they could possibly get. But there's just no scaling back at this point.
