Kristin Neff is the associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin's Department of Educational Psychology. With her partner, Chris Gurner, she's developed an empirically supported training program called Mindful Self-Compassion which is taught by thousands of teachers worldwide. We need to be able to notice when we're struggling, when we're avoiding it or resisting it instead of just being swallowed up in suffering. And I think it's important because you might say that the components of self compassion are also a recipe for how to give yourself love and support.
