Nicholas' father died when he was only five, so you never saw him age. He went into hospital on the Monday for an operation to ease his uncle-osing spondulitis. The thing that stands out more than anything is his request to know something about a song. I don't remember how or when I found out what song had got to number one. We were rooting for the two of us to be people for whom songs were extensions of their ordinary lives.
