The social world isn't people, rather, it's an emergent phenomenon out of people interacting with each other. If you really want to understand society as a whole, what you have to do is understand the super organism that is human ciety. But again, that picture is built on the very same assumption: there's nothing more to human society than people and interactions with one another.
