The Death of Philip Lake

Police knew from witness accounts that Arthur Bannister had been seen walking near the train tracks with a 22-caliber rifle. After his remains were exhumed, an x-ray revealed there was a bullet lodged in Philip's skull. His death was not an accident, and it was not blunt force trauma that killed him. This was a murder. In October of 1935, three months before the Lake family murders, May Bannister summoned Albert Powell to her home as she had something urgent to tell him. He adamantly denied having any sexual contact with the young girl; he told police he was surprised she would say something like that when she herself would know it wasn't true.
