Copernicus's Theory of the Universe Without Epicycles
You can tell when the theory is better than another if it describes more with less, or if it predicts more with less. So maybe the Copernican model without epicycles describes the theory less accurately, but it can describe a lot more with much less complexity. All you need is the earth going and circles around the sun rather than these layers of epicycles or whatever. We apply this principle known as Occam's Razor to a lot of our theories where we say, well, sure, I could fit the data a little bit better with all this extra complicated stuff, but I don't think that's worth it in the end.
