How Do You Use Mechanical Skills to Give Meaning to Form?

When you were 12 or 13, your auntie sent you to art school. It was a summer of starting with gestural drawing and learning to draw from observation. Your errors are never really errors, they just become part of the formal attributes of what you're seeing visually. And much of this is based, I think, on surrealism, allowing forms to take on something other than their literal meaning.
