The Importance of Affective Polarization
Affective polarization is a polarization that's much more about our feelings towards people with whom we disagree as opposed to traditional polarization which political scientists, policy makers all of us thought of as ideological spread of partners. Affective polarization says regardless of our ideological positions we dislike each other more and it's been pretty well documented that this has been increasing over time and rapidly so since say to the 2000s.
