By 1937, Harlan Sanders had a restaurant service station and also built a 17 room motel complex. His first waitress was Nell Ray who would go on to marry the Kentucky Colonel. In 1939, a fire ripped through Sanders Court but he almost didn't rebuild it at all. The Governor of Kentucky Gave Harlan Sanders the title of Kentucky Colonel.
