Classical Athens - A Different Kind of Document Consciousness
Thomas argues that our concepts of original and copy don't necessarily apply to thinking in classical athens. The greek word for copy, a intigraphon, appears to be used to describe both the archived original document and the publicly visible steele. And so from all this, thomas argues that an emphasis on verbatim, accurate copy is not something we would depend on today.
