The American Constitution and the Amendment Clause
The U.S. Constitution requires a two-thirds majority of the Congress or state conventions to propose an amendment and then a three-force majority of the states to approve it. We don't want our Constitution changing at the whim of the people, but we do want it to be subject to the people. Lyndon Monk actually pointed out the elements of the original Constitution that I think gave it the ability to last.
