Levin: As the elites fall apart, it creates opportunities for authoritarians. He says research shows that there's something like an authoritarian predisposition in people who are bothered by rapid change and cacophony. And so you can see now political movements seeking to appeal to that kind of person with messages aimed at making them feel better, he says. Levin: We're going down a dangerous path in the West, everywhere, not just in one country but worldwide.
