The Fear of a Bear Market

If you own a hotel by the beach and there's a big hurricane coming, you're probably going to shut down the hotel for a few days. And this is sort of like this in a way, but obviously we don't know how big the storm is. That's what triggers a bear market. If you invest in the stock market and you want those outsized returns that the market provides, you need to understand that bear markets are part of the landscape. You should never be surprised by them. Any more than if you live in Northern New England, you should be surprised by blizzards orif you live in Southern Florida, you shouldBe surprised by hurricanes.
