John c. Calhoun is pretty darned close to the only american political theorist ever worth a damn in terms of saying things that were interesting and valuable and original and important. He thought about nullification, i think, more deeply than anybody else. You can keep the union together, but it won't be the union that the framers gave us. It'll be a union where one side has all the power and the rest of the parties are in subjection. That's not our original union. It's just not. Why would it be? What possible interest do these people have in reading such a thing?
