The History of the Hawaiian Islands
Hawaiian religion revolved around the correct way of doing things and operated around what's called the kapu system. The islands also developed a complex economy of local expert crafts people who exchanged their products with other islands. Europeans only put the island literally on the map in 1778, but there were other non-Hawaiian people who had been there before that. There are indications of Spanish shipwreck survivors as well as infrequent contact with Japanese sailors and Japanese shipwreck survivors.
