Baron von Ungern-Stürnberg, commander of the Asian Cavalry Division, was captured in August 1921. His three charges were simple: Aiding and abetting Imperial Japan, which was attempting to create a Central Asian puppet state. The prosecutor used every answer as an opportunity to lecture the crowd about how this man was an example of what would happen if he turned against socialism.
