The Importance of a Culture of Internal Solidarity
It's not like nobody knew this kind of thing was going on. Abuse, misogyny and racist behaviour are seen by other police officers. So you need to have a culture where people feel they can call out misconduct when they see it. It has to recruit people who will be given permission to use force but must also expect to be at the receiving end of violence. If there is bullying or inappropriate behaviour going on, that is completely unacceptable. We should be wrapping our arms around people who have got a tough job rather than allowing a culture to develop which makes it even harder for them. I saw for myself a guy whose body was just literally on the sidewalk, and they were finding blankets to cover
