Is There a Problem in Bitcoin Clients Back Then?

If a big block would have been mined, say in 2012, would that have meant that Bitcoin core nodes, it wasn't even called Bitcoin core back then. Then everybody was told to either update to a new version of Bitcoin core or change a slight setting in in that database. But only if you start to try to sync it now, now that blocks are big, it's that the problem is really revealed. So there was kind of a bug in old notes, right? Yeah. It got revealed as soon as they upgraded it.
