Odor tisona has been exploring the relationship between smell and appetite in experiments. They carry these out in a place that's half way between an industrial kitchen and a psychology lab. Exposure to odors increases appetite in general, but also very specific. For insens when they were exposed to a tomato odor, their appetite for tomato increase, but also for other savoury products such as beta. So spills over two foods with similar sensory characteristics.
