The Last Glacier Maximum
Scientists have identified several factors that can drive the onset of an ice age. These include tectonic activity changes in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentration and changes in solar emission. Another cause are changes in the Earth's orbit around the sun, which changes how much solar radiation reaches the Earth. The last glacial maximum was 20,000 years ago.
