Dostoyevsky was very much against the westernization of russia, which was happening all the time. The big moment in dostoevsky' lie fon, the big political struggle that he was particularly interested in was the abolition of serfdom. But there's no question that prison and the experience of the mock execution in everything really changed him to massively deep in his view on religion.
