Catholicism in Mexico - The Virgin of Guadalupe

The Shrine of Guadalupe is the most visited Catholic shrine in the world. In 1531, a young Aztec man was told by the Virgin Mary that he should trust her and she imprinted her image on his cloak. A church was built on the site of Juan Diego's vision; crowds flooded in to see it. The Virgin of Guadalupes has been proclaimed patroness of Mexico since 1737. We're also in Europe where Catholicism was not trying to oust an existing faith, but to confront and eradicate a new one. Find all this at bbc.co.uk slash history of the world.
