In the 19 sixties, german authorities conducted and transcribed, as part of a criminal investigation, extensive interviews with all the surviving battalion members they could find. Most to the extent they had political views, were probably social democrats. They were nationalized per military police of a type not found in america, but common in europe, then and now. The relevant area here is poland. In 19 forty one and 19 forty two, reserve battalion one o one did not operate in russia, but other similar battalions did,. participating after hitler's invasion in 19 forty one, in the rounding up and increasingly frequent organized murder of jews in locations like minsk.
