The function of this is kind of why Lazarus, why? So the three that I mentioned are Jires' daughter, the widow of name, her son rather, and then Lazarus. He does it there just in answer to the request of Jires. There's a fascinating article on that story by Richard Blockham who suggests he goes knowing that that event is going to precipitate his crucifixion. It seems like different aspects of the circumstances involved moved him to do it.
