The Egyptian priest physicians performed diagnosis and prognosis in much the same way. But there was something new to be found in these works, writes Dr Andrew Keen. The texts like the sacred disease were making an argument for the causes of disease. In contrast, earlier medical writings usually took the form of lists of ailments with corresponding treatments and rituals.
