Brutishness and Cruelty

I don't want to say that these are all just brutes, because neighbours might be of the middling sort. There is a sense in which people are doing this out of a sense that their community, their society, is endangered by people behaving in criminal and sinful ways. So there is a community spirit, even behind the purience that goes on in these records. Yes, there are also some cases that seem to us funny to day, which just prarient, you know. Sometimes you can think you're in a kind of english bedroom farce with these records. And it's quite a funny story to tell, but in a way, it makes the reader prurient
