The Importance of Public Editors
Major newspapers don't have such a job, says former New York Times public editor. "There's a lot of press critics out there amateur and professional," she says. The role is to hear the criticism from readers or the audience; explain it back in sensible way. She thinks that if you have a salary, give it to a reporter not an in-house critic.
