The Artillery Duel Between Huerta and Dios
US Ambassador Henry Lane Wilson believed that the only way to restore order and end further bloodshed was for President Madero to resign. He conferred with his fellow ambassadors representing the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain, and they too tended to agree that Madero was to blame for all this. The plan to pressure Madero into resigning by saddling him with responsibility for the dead was going nowhere. On Sunday February the 16th, Huerta and Dias agreed to an armistice so that everyone could bury their dead. Hundreds of thousands had died in the week of fighting and shelling far more than belligerents.
