Eating the higher carbohydrate diet actually led to slightly less fat gain than eating the higher fat diet. But the difference is so small that effectively, its is negligible. When people go on a low carbo drate diet, they lose fat. When people going on a low fat diet, they tend to lose fat. It's not that it doesn't matter in a real life scenario. The mechanism by which it matters is that it reduces your calory an take. So when you eliminate that effect in very tightly controlled conditions, you don't see any effect on body fatness.
