It seems like it was really important for his later work that he had this period of just racing everything through and printing it. It almost sounds like he got a lot of bad writing out of his system or he didn't consider any one particular story to be so precious that he had to agonize over it. So many of the great stories in these two years seemed to me just as great as the greater later stories. You're absolutely right. There's no preciousness. You're on deadline. You're going to finish this story and you're going to write it to size. That was one of his beeps with his humor writer magazine editor was he had to write to size.
