The Iconoscope: The First Device to Use the Photoelectric Effect for Sensing Images

The Iconoscope was designed in the 1920s by Vladimir Zworkin at RCA. It's a big evacuated tube that bends at an angle before flattening out into a big flat dish. Inside is a thin micaplate that acts as an insulator and conductive layer. If there's enough energy to overcome the weak nuclear force, then the electron can escape.
