The Importance of Deadlocks in SQL Server, Right?
A mutex must be acquired, like a lock must be acquired at the page level. Otherwise you get corruption. If transaction one acquires an exclusive lock on table A, and then tries to acquire anexclusive lock on table B, then neither of them can proceed. That deadlock can also occur as a result of for all level locks, and thus they can occur even if the explicit locking is not used.
