Rudolph Hesse's Death
Rudolph Hesse hanged himself from a window latch and a small summer house in the prison garden using an electric extension cord. Attempts were made to revive him and he was then rushed to the British Military Hospital where after further unsuccessful attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at 4.10 pm. A suicide note addressed to Hesse's family was found in his pocket. The report noted a linear mark on the left side of the neck consistent with a ligature. In his opinion, death resulted from asphyxia caused by compression of the neck due to suspension.
