The axion is a very light particle, 10 to the minus 5 electron volts. The idea of fuzzy cold dark matter or bose-einstein condensate dark matter are other kinds of hypothetical particles that are even lower in mass. If you have one hypothetical particle that can solve two problems at once, that's considered to be better.
