In the 1960s Playboy is hugely influential in the counterculture. It's one of the easiest places for discordians who are writing these nonsense conspiracy letters to get their shit published. Robert Anton Wilson and Bob Shea saw themselves as waging a necessary war against people's widely accepted definitions of reality. They were responding to what they see as all of the people perpetuating these crimes have locked themselves into this like very solidified belief about the nature of the world that is wrong but justifies violence.
