The History of English

The history of the English language is a fascinating story. It explains why we have houses, but not mouses? We have mice. Why do we have boxes and foxes, but not oxes? We have oxen. And why do we spell knife with a kay or gnome with a g? I mean, i can go on and on, because the examples seem endless. But the answers to those questions lie in the history of the language. Like some languages which reject outside influences, english has shown an incredible willingness and ability to adapt and evolve.
