Lament for Israel in Verses 1 and 2
Verses one to 17 of this chapter seem to follow a chiastic or book ended structure. The charge to seek the lord and live is found in verses four to six, and then again in verses 14 and 15. Verses 16 and 17 returns to the theme of lamentation with which the chapter began. We shall probably recall the passover and the mourning of all israel at the death of the first born.
