Psychoanalytic insight here is that this thing that we call the human person and those people that we call ourselves are represent both those things, straddle those distinctions. The uncanny offers a paradigm for thinking about how the unconscious behaves but also how we react to the unconscious when its activity is exposed to us. It's like what our roles are, are handed to us and even embraced by us or rejected by us for reasons that aren't just conscious.
