Epistemic Priority in Assessing the Value of Life
I think here we have to be very careful not to slip between two different questions. On the one hand, an ontological question about whether a person's life is in fact valuable viewed in total at that time. And epistemically assessing that you are in the presence of a life worth living. So if we are going to defer to anyone's judgment, it should at least prima facie and emphasizing that word, because it's not irrebuttable. People should are the people whose life it is on the best position to make that assessment. But they're not infallible and they can get things right or wrong.
