The Importance of Parallelism in Computers
In many ways, this is in fact quite like what computers do. They can create the illusion of doing more than one thing at the same time through a process that's called threading. But as anyone who has used computers in the last 50 years can attest, sometimes this breaks down and we end up staring at the hourglass or the spinning beach ball of doom. And so I think there's really a connection between how a machine's time management can fall to pieces and some of the human traps that we all recognize from our own lives.
