How Did the Army Treat African American Soldiers in the South?

The army was more worried about black soldiers stationed in the south. The government's assumption that african american soldiers would have radically lower morale because life in the south was objectively worse wasn't correct. They were about the same, or even in some items, black troops in the south had higher morale than those in the north.
