The Available Heuristic

The availability heuristic is when you replace the actual likelihood of something happening with the likelihood of it coming into your brain. You assume that the things that pop into your head more easily are things that are more likely. A classic example would be the risk of driving on a family trip versus flying. The real answer to the question is that it is categorically more dangerous to drive than the fly.
