The Potato - A Disease Caused Plant Poisonous

The potato comes from nightshade and the vegetative and fruiting parts contain a toxin, which is dangerous for human consumption. So you don't eat again anything in the potato with the exception of the actual tuber. After its arrival in Europe, it was mainly considered fit only to be used as animal feed or the body of the potato was discarded so that the flowers were used for decoration. Some religious authorities even had deemed that the potato was unsuitable for human consumption because it was not mentioned in the Bible. They weren't allowed to eat it.
