Hot Milk: A Novel About a Doppelganger
I think place always has a surreal and dreamlike hold in your novels. Each book starts with a very defining moment in a certain place. In Hot Milk you know it's such a pleasure to write about it. I've always wanted to write about the way cicadas in the trees of a particular part of Southern Spain make the tree vibrate almost imperceptibly. For some reason I do because they are the birds. They're my equivalent. There's something sort of vibrating in Sophia in Hot Milk. So that's why I noticed the cicada you know but then it's just great to kind of notice that tree anyway.
