The working manuscript that Don McLean used to write "Masters of War" sold at auction for 1.2 million in 2015. The song is nearly nine minutes long, which had come as no surprise that this manuscript ran to 16 pages. It contains lines that didn't make the final cut, including I knelt to my knees and there I prayed.
