The Big Excuse for the Food Industry

One of the reasons I think for the sharp rise in obesity between 1980 and 2000 was the huge amount of food that was being produced. That's agricultural policy from the 1970s. When we went from a food supply that had a little over 3000 calories a day per capita to one that had 4000 calories per day, the food industry had to sell that. And so that's just we have a subsidy system in the United States that subsidizes food producers for producing more food. The main effect of United States subsidies is to encourage overproduction. It's bad for people. It'sbad for the environment. It needs to be fixed. Yes.
